This year’s Oslo World offers a lot of great concerts from large bands. We are happy to add Baba Soul & The Professors of Funk to the list. It is an eight piece orchestra with Lisbon born Hugo Castro in the front. They have been tireless performers on club scenes in Norway and the rest of Europe since they founded the band in 2011. The goal is to spread funk and soul gospel to norwegian concert goers. They are inspired by classic sounds from the sixties and seventies like James Brown, Booker T. & the MGs and Parliament-Funkadelic. It is a vintage ensemble – a huge, groovy rhythm section, tight horns and a charismatic singer and bandleader.
We find musicians from Norway, Brazil, Switzerland and Portugal in the band, who released their debut album “Chronotapes” last year. They might talk about professor titles, dissertations and the spreading of gospels, but there is an unpretentious vibe to the proceedings. The joy in music always comes first – the details can be dealt with later.
In collaboration with Fargespill. The concert is free.
