Danish meeting between east and west

When AySay visited Oslo World in 2021, the audiences knew something special was happening - this time around, they have firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting things in Danish music and beyond. Luna Ersahin, the front figure of the band, plays saz and sings in danish, kurdish and turkish. She has a Danish mother and a Kurdish father from Turkey, and the band follows in these footprints. They draw on inspirations ranging from the Danish folktronica band Sorten Muld to Altin Gün, who they opened for at Oslo World the last time they were here. Eastern and western traditions cross paths, saz and darbouka mix with electronic percussion. Danish lyrics are sung to eastern melodies, before crossing over into Turkish and back again.

In addition to Ersahin, Aske Døssing Bendixen plays analog and digital percussion and Carl West Hosbond plays guitar. They released their first album, “Su Akar”, in November 2021, playing two sets at Oslo World. In the fall of 2023, their sophomore album “KÖY” was released, building on the promise of their debut, showing more adventurousness and a growing stylistic range. The song “Ez Kevokim”, dedicated to the women in the Iranian revolution, had become a hit in Kurdish communities after Ersahin performed it at a concert in Chile back in 2019. Music travels in unexpected ways - and the music of AySay is a riveting travelogue.
