This year, Oslo World welcomes one of the biggest names in Italian music. Lorenzo Cherubini, known worldwide as Jovanotti, is a songwriter, performer, and cultural icon. Born in 1966, he began his career at the end of the 1980s as one of the first hip hop DJs and MCs in Italy, blending the urban pulse of Run DMC, Public Enemy, and Beastie Boys with the warmth and rhythm of Mediterranean life.
Over the decades, his sound has evolved through funk, rap, an eclectic blend of pop styles and song writing, shaping a language that is both deeply Italian and relatable to a global audience. In addition to being a musician, Jovanotti is a traveller, writer, and humanist, whose bicycle journeys across continents — from the Andes to the deserts of Africa — have become living metaphors of discovery and connection. He has also been a passionate advocate for human rights and environmental causes, collaborating with organizations like Amnesty International, Emergency, and LAV. In 2019, he launched the Jova Beach Party, turning Italy’s beaches into open-air celebrations of music and community.
With 16 studio albums, 3 compilations, 4 live albums, and an impressive list of awards — 16 Gold, 67 Platinum, and 1 Diamond Record — Jovanotti remains one of the most loved and influential artists in the Italian-speaking world. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Sérgio Mendes, Sly & Robbie, Bombino, Manu Dibango, Benny Benassi, and Mousse T., to mention but a few. His ambition and vision for the interplay between music, people and the world is huge - and perhaps unusual. But it might also be needed right now. And at the core of it all, there is still his music – approachable, filled with joy and bittersweetness – perfect for convincing even the most cynical sceptic. Jova is a true star - and the ideal antidote against the cold and dark Oslo autumn.
The concert is presented in collaboration with Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Oslo.
