A night of pidgin rap and club music from Lagos, Brussels and Oslo.
At Trekanten, during Oslo World, the artist Kacper has invited the Nigerian/Belgian duo Le Motel & Magugu for a night of adventurous club music and rap. Le Motel & Magugu will perform a concert, and there will be DJ sets both from the duo and from the Oslo-based artist.
Magugu was raised in Ajegungle, a neighbourhood in Lagos (Nigeria), where pidgin rap was born. In pidgin rap, two disparate languages blend together as one to create a fast-paced, high-energy sound. Magugu wants to connect the world to his African heritage through this style, and he has gained the admiration of Giles Peterson, Toddla T, Skrillex and more. His partner, Le Motel from Brussels, operates between production, field recording and composition, channeling global influences into a layered, cinematic sound. Through his label Maloca, he explores connections between different cultures and sounds, pushing his work beyond traditional club formats. Le Motel & Magugu started cooperating in 2021 and together, they have released two EPs. The last one, Bitter Better, drew inspiration from a vast range of club music styles.
Kacper was born in Warsaw and is based in Oslo. He used to be known under the stage name Safario, and har performed at some of the top festivals in Norway (Øya, Slottsfjell, Træna, By:Larm) in addition to touring Europe. His music is eclectic, sophisticated and irresistibly fun. At Trekanten during Oslo World, we will find him in the DJ booth and in the audience, as Le Motel & Magugu takes the stage.
This concert is presented in collaboration with Trekanten and Kacper.
