Oslo World Youth: At a Safe Distance

  • MUNCH
  • Starts at 18.00
  • Price: Free of charge!

Arif's exhibition at MUNCH takes the public on an emotional journey between Zanzibar, where Arif's family originates, and Oslo. It is an enveloping experience that offers new music from Arif in combination with film, light, interactivity and events.

In connection with the exhibition, Oslo World Youth will curate a conversation that revolves around the experience of being Norwegian, but at the same time having close ties to a country the majority doesn’t know much about.

How does it feel to have these experiences, and this knowledge, in Norway today? How does it shape the perspectives diaspora kids have on the world, both inside the arts and in daily life? Are there common experiences and feelings, across different conflicts and countries, that it is useful to highlight together?

Many of us are affected in Norway, but we also sit at a safe distance in many ways. It is easy to feel alone and isolated when you have close ties to the places the news images are taken from. It shouldn't be that way - the conversations about these experiences must also be part of our community if it is to last.
