Susanna // RELEASE: Meditations on Love (Norway)

In 2024, Susanna celebrates her twentieth anniversary as a recording artist. The singer and multiinstrumentalist is a maverick on the modern Norwegian music scene. She is a distinctive interpreter of songwriting, visual arts and poetry, exemplified by last years critically lauded Baudelaire & Orchestra, and a composer of original material, with an ever developing sense of conceptual grandeur. Her newest project, Meditations on Love, is no exception. As the title reveals, it centers around what might be called Susanna’s main field of research: love in all its vulnerable forms. Betrayal, deceit, broken trust – not only towards others, but yourself. Surrounding these lyrical meditations, Susanna and her co producer Juhani Silvola have built what might be called an organic musical machine. Saxophones and clarinets join Silvola and Susanna's diverse instrumentarium together with experimental percussion and drums, creating textures and patterns which might remind you of everything from the Harry Partch-inspired arrangements in the music by Tom Waits to Ethiopian soul music. It is music that invites the listener inside, to associate, to ponder the relationship between each building block and the way they are woven together. One of her most ambitious and essential projects to date, it is a labour of love - about love.
