Unganisha is a musical meeting between a traditional musician from Kenya - Labdi Ommes (Orutu and vocals) - and an experimental electronic musician from Norway - Bernt Isak Wærstad (electronics). Together they are continuously on the lookout for new fusions of East African music, Western art music and electronic club music. Fragments from two cultures are used as building blocks to create a new, culturally resynthesized and completely unique sound.
In recent years, Unganisha has played a number of concerts at festivals and club stages in Kenya and Norway, including Beneath The Baobabs, The Mist, Melafestivalen, Global Music Oslo and Bergen International Music Festival. At by:Larm in 2020, where they made a name for themselves in both Dagsavisen, Ballade and NRK P2 - Arne Berg in Jungeletelegrafen (P2) called them "The most interesting thing that happened at by:Larm 2020!". In February 2022 came the first EP —“Kucheza!” — which received a lot of attention in Kenyan media and ended up on several best of the year lists for 2022. This fall, their first album will be released on Anything Goes Records.
