Unge Beirut
Elias Tchaba, known as “Young Beirut”, came from Beirut to Vennesla when he was 7 years old. The Norwegian-Lebanese rapper released his first single in 2017. Since then he has appeared in various collaborations and was rewarded with a Grammy nomination after his debut album in 2018. Unge Beirut has more in stock, work is being done on a new album and he has appeared in a number of different contexts, at the same time as the commitment to the city he has borrowed his artist name from remains.
Raw B
“Music can be received in many ways. Ironically enough, when it comes to sad songs, they often have a way of being viewed as sentimental neutralizers, as a form of comfort. But my music is a source of total freedom”. Those are the words of artist and songwriter Raw B from Holmlia in Oslo when she tries to describe the inspiration behind the single “Cold As Ice” which she released during the pandemic and which got her a spot in the P3 Urørt finals this year.
Raw B started making music during the summer of 2018 when a friend of her had gotten studio time at Agenda X in Oslo, a place for young intercultural people growing up in the city. First she borrowed studio time, but then she inherited it and made it her own. She has produced a lot since then, and so far she has released three songs. There is more to come. When Anna Nor Sørensen from NRK Urørt heard her, she didn’t hesitate in dubbing Raw B “Norways next r&b and rap star”. Others have made comparisons with young american rappers such as Kodie Shane and Trippie Red, noting her obvious international potential. Raw B has spent 2020 in the studio, so there is still more to come.
