The OK World project started as a wish by Norwegian jazz musician and composer Bugge Wesseltoft to establish a global music ensemble in 2011. Wesseltoft recruited musicians with various experience and hailing from countries as diverse as India, Lebanon, Spain, Norway and Mozambique. The commissioned piece OK World is the result of the interaction between all the involved musicians, inspiration is taken from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Sharing the philosophy about music is an universal language, the musicians of OK world have a common goal: To show that music is a strong expression that can be understood and enjoyed by everyone.
As a group, the members of OK world have travelled to places like Dhaka, Beirut, Dehli, Mumbai and Maputo. They have developed to become more than a worldwide musical ensemble – stating sustainability to be a major driving force. As part of their performances, they have contributed to build workshops, educate musicians, develop young talents and strengthen local musical communities. Nevertheless, they never stop developing their own music, and their groovy epics are guaranteed to reach out to an ever-growing audience in 2013.
OK World will release an album this year, and are picked out to open the 20th Oslo World Music Festival on 29 October at Oslo Concert Hall – after which they will head out on a Norwegian and European tour.
