Percussion is to be heard everywhere around us! The sound can be made by drums, voices or friction: clapping of hands, snapping of fingers and clanging of saucepan lids are all prime examples.
During this concert, you will meet two of the world’s foremost percussion ensembles: the Norwegian trio SISU and the seven-piece group NAADRO from Sri Lanka. For 20 years, SISU has met with accolades in Scandinavia and other parts of the world for its openness and playfulness, harmonically combined with musical skills and precision. Through its exploration of sound and combinations of timbres, as well as a candid and investigative attitude to musical challenges, they have developed a conscious expressiveness on stage and a distinctive identity.
Outside the northern hemisphere, SISU has toured most extensively in Asia. They have visited Sri Lanka and engaged in cooperative projects there on frequent occasions. NAADRO hails from the island’s capital, Colombo. The young musicians seek inspiration in the sounds of the metropolis as well as the proud Sri Lankan drumming traditions, and they also make use of instruments and rhythms from India, Japan, Latin America and Africa.
The basic element of percussion music is the rhythm, which is recognizable to everybody across all cultures and societies, regardless of language. This evening, rhythm will rule, SISU will celebrate their 20th anniversary and the audience will be invited to participate. We look forward to seeing you in Ridehuset at Akershus fortress!
