Kristin Asbjørnsen has always been exceeding boundaries. After a fruitful period as a singer in the critically acclaimed ensembles Dadafon and Krøyt, the past decade has revolved around her solo career.
She has released three great full-length albums, with African-American spirituals and original songs, where her amazing voice finds inspiration from both Nordic jazz, West African music, folk songs and contemplative church music. The culmination of this rich musical universe is “Traces of You,” a commissioned work for Global Oslo Music, where Kristin has written songs for a new collaboration with kora player Ablaye Cissoko and guitarist Olav Torget.
In an exceptionally beautiful and original ensemble sound the trickling kora, the guitars and the vocals are melted together in an organic, chamber musical soundscapes.
Kora Player Ablaye Cissoko is griot and joins the ranks of brilliant musicians from Senegal. With its West African roots and a major in jazz and classical music, he is one of the main crossover musicians from Africa today. Guitarist Olav Torgets expressions have been developed through many years of specialization in Southern and West African musical traditions, and especially in griot movement from Senegal.
When “Traces of You” will be performed again during the festival, there will be three highly gifted musicians who through life’s race has approached the same spiritual music.
