The first artists are ready for Oslo World 2024!

Marisa Monte and Jorge Drexler visit Norway and Oslo World for the very first time.

A Brazilian icon opens Oslo World 2024

Marisa Monte one of the greatest Brazilian singers of all time – and the greatest of her generation. Throughout a career spanning 30 years, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer has blended samba and Música popular brasileira with pop, jazz and soul, all featuring her exquisite, operatically-trained voice.

She became a sensation in Brazil in the early nineties and got her global breakthrough with her second album, “Verde, Anil, Amarelo, Cor de Rosa e Carvão”, in 1994. For her 2000 release “Memórias, Crônicas, e Declaracões de Amor”, she was awarded her first of four Latin Grammys. She worked with greats such as Arto Lindsay, Arnaldo Antunes, Nando Reis, and Carlinhos Brown, expanding her stylistic range, pushing forward while digging deep into the roots of samba. Several successful collaborations and albums followed, both under her own name and with the Brazilian supergroup Tribalistas.

In 2024, Marisa Monte will perform at Oslo World for the very first time. Hits such as "Ainda Bem", "Já sei Namorar", "Amor I Love You" and "Velha Infância" are included in the repertoire, which will highlight important moments in a long and remarkable career. It will be the opening concert for this festival – we couldn’t wish for a better start.

Intimate meeting with an Uruguayan legend

When Jorge Drexler visits Oslo World during an extensive tour of Europe, we will experience him at his most intimate. He will be all alone with his guitar and his voice, the fundamentals of his illustrious career, and the only things he needs to captivate audiences. By returning to the solo format, Drexler will reconnect with his songs, revisiting not only his last album but his entire career.

Jorge Drexler originally trained as a medical doctor, but in 1995, he decided to leave his life in Uruguay. He moved to Spain, where he pursued a music career. Since then, he has recorded fourteen studio albums. He has received thirteen Latin Grammys and he was the very first Uruguayan to receive an Academy Award, when he composed “Al otro lado del río” for The Motorcycle Diaries back in 2004.

In 2022, Jorge Drexler released his latest album 'Tinta y Tiempo' after five years of recording silence. Anchored in his recognizable poetic worldview and quirky wordplay inspired by poetry and science, it showcased an artist hungry for more. Rolling Stone called it “One of the most whimsical and free-spirited albums of his 30-year career”. With the album “Tinta y Tiempo” Drexler took home an incredible six Latin-Grammys, among them the “Best Singer-songwriter album” of 2022. He did an extensive tour of the Americas, in addition to Portugal and Spain, where his concert recently got a Premios Ondas award for best performance of 2023.

Now, Norway and Oslo World awaits. His concert at Rockefeller Concert hall on the 29th of october will be his first concert in Norway - we are proud to present a passionate, playful artist in a setting where his singular mind can roam freely.
