Festival guide: Hot dancefloors
Autumn may bring miserable weather and low temperatures, but at Oslo World, we’re going to dance. All week long, there will be a range of club events at Jaeger and other venues – check out the club programme here for a dedicated overview. We can also guarantee movement when the legends of Hovedøen Social Club take over Cosmopolite, at the Kacper, Le Motel & Magugu night at Trekanten, and not least when the wildly youthful cumbia orchestra Frente Cumbiero make Nasjonal Jazzscene shake to its foundations. And the dancing doesn’t stop there, of course – check out Explosive Bands, for example, for more hot tips.
Frente Cumbiero
Nasjonal Jazzscene
28 October
Frente Cumbiero are one of the bands leading the charge in Colombia’s new generation of cumbia. Over an already long and successful career, they have explored the sonic identity of the genre and expanded its reach across Latin America and beyond. Their combination of infectious rhythms, hooks that lodge themselves in your brain and a mesmerising sonic palette has earned them a devoted following among audiences hungry for musical adventures and steamy dancefloors.
The band is led by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano Toro, who is also a founding member of other important projects such as Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas. As a live band, Frente Cumbiero perform as a quartet, delivering powerful tropical dancefloor experiences with two horns, live percussion and electronic sounds.
Their latest release, Inconcreto & Asociados, came out in 2025 and showcases a band at the height of its powers. On the 2020 EP Minyo Cumbiero: From Tokyo To Bogota, they teamed up with the band that invented Japanese cumbia, Oslo World favourites Minyo Crusaders. This autumn, Oslo World hosts a concert guaranteed to become a highlight of the cumbia scene in Norway.

Kacper, Le Motel & Magugu
Trekanten
31 October
At Trekanten during Oslo World, artist Kacper has invited the Nigerian-Belgian duo Le Motel & Magugu for a night of adventurous club music and rap. Le Motel & Magugu will perform a live set, followed by DJ sets from both the duo and the Oslo-based artist.
Magugu grew up in Ajegunle, a neighbourhood in Lagos, Nigeria, and the birthplace of pidgin rap. Pidgin rap blends two different languages into a fast-paced and energetic form. Through this style, Magugu aims to introduce the world to his African heritage, earning acclaim along the way from Giles Peterson, Toddla T, Skrillex and others.
Magugu’s partner, Brussels-based Le Motel, works at the intersection of music production, field recordings and composition, drawing on influences from around the globe to create a layered, cinematic sound. Through his label Maloca, he explores connections between different cultures and sounds, looking far beyond traditional club formats.
The collaboration between Le Motel & Magugu began in 2021, and together they have released two EPs. The latest, Bitter Better, draws inspiration from a broad range of club music styles.

Hovedøen Social Club
Cosmopolite Scene
29 October
The combination of Cuban music and old Norwegian radio hits may have seemed absurd when Hovedøen Social Club made their debut almost twenty years ago – but then again, few people would probably have thought gin and tonic belonged together before someone tried it. And Hovedøen Social Club did more than just try. With a deep knowledge of Cuban musical traditions and a love for these old songs that went far beyond the postmodern cliché of the “ironic cover”, their fusion quickly embedded itself in the Norwegian subconscious.
Of course this elegant, refreshing combination had to exist. Their major breakthrough came with ¡Que viva Noruega! in 2008, an album that received more or less continuous radio play that summer. Since then, there have been several successful albums and collaborations with institutions including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK), Det Norske Blåseensemble, the Royal Norwegian Navy Band and the Arctic Philharmonic.
Hovedøen Social Club deliver it all with a smile, keeping the music firmly anchored to the dancefloor and the nights warm and long – even during the cold Norwegian autumn.
