Lido Pimienta and Frente Cumbiero to Oslo World 2026
A Caribbean art-pop adventurer and leaders of Colombia’s new cumbia movement visit Oslo World 2026.
Lido Pimienta - Parkteatret - October 30
This year, for the very first time, the Canadian-Colombian artist Lido Pimienta will perform at Oslo World. An unforgettable live performer, Pimienta is also one of the most adventurous and ambitious young pop artists on the global scene today. On every new music release, she seeks uncharted territory, melding together inspiration from the larger world of contemporary art with a keen ear to new movements in pop and club music. Pimienta was originally booked at Oslo World a few years back, but the show got cancelled. Back then, she had just released Miss Colombia, which became her definitive breakthrough.
On the album, her shape shifting voice and sense of exploration was on full display, combining her family’s mixed roots in the Afro-Colombian and Indigenous Wayuu communities with an ambitious sonic palette, packed with global-beats influences, lush synths and pop hooks. It was nominated for Grammy awards in the Best Latin Rock and Alternative Album Category.
Then, things changed. On her next album, La Belleza, she ventured into European classical music, combining inspirations from Gregorian chants and sixteenth century castrato singing with modern recording techniques. An immodestly ambitious combination of orchestral grandeur and personal storytelling, the album was announced as an ode to beauty in all its forms. “The thought of making ‘classical music’ never occurred to me before, but making experimental electronica on Miss Colombia was not premeditated either,” Pimienta says. “All I create is a natural evolution of my curiosity and stubbornness.” The quote neatly sums up her career thus far: Lido Pimienta is an artist on the move. Just expect the unexpected - she won’t disappoint.
Frente Cumbiero - Nasjonal Jazzscene - October 28
Frente Cumbiero are one of the bands spearheading Colombia’s new cumbia movement. Throughout a long and successful career, they have explored the genre’s sonic identity, and expanded its footprint in Latin America and beyond. The combination of infectious rhythms, inescapable hooks and an ingenious sound palette have led to the embrace by devoted audiences, starving for musical adventure and steaming dance floors.
The band is headed by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano Toro, who is also a founding member of Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas. Throughout their catalogue, they have collaborated with a long list of legendary musicians such as Mad Professor, the Kronos Quartet, Orquesta La Delio Valdez and Minyo Crusaders. The diverse roster gives an idea of their eclectic, far reaching take on the music. They have toured the world, and performed to rapturous reviews at New York’s MoMA, Festival Estéreo Picnic, Roskilde Festival, Womad, Womadelaide, Womex, Sónar, and Fuji Rock.
As a live band, Frente Cumbiero performs in a quartet format, which focuses on delivering a powerhouse tropical sound to the dance floor by combining 2 wind instruments, live percussion and electronic sounds. Their latest release, Inconcreto & Asociados, dropped in 2025 and demonstrates a band at the peak of their powers, while the 2020 EP Minyo Cumbiero: From Tokyo To Bogota finds them experimenting together with the originators of Japanese cumbia, Oslo World friends Minyo Crusaders. This autumn, Oslo World is host to a concert wich will surely be a highlight of the cumbia genre in Norway thus far
